The Modern History Research Centre
The Modern History Research Centre, founded in 2010, will organise a regular research seminar series, provide an intellectual home for research students and staff, and generally support the research and dissemination activities of researchers of modern history.
Main research projects
The Overland Trade Project
The Overland Trade Project will present data from brokage books from the period 1430 - 1540 in a fully searchable and interactive database, linked to a mapping system originally developed by the GeoData Institute.
The Inquisitions Post-Mortem Project
Inquisitions Post Mortems (IPMs) are important sources of information for the social and economic history of medieval England. The IPM Project aims to make all the surviving IPMs from 1236 to 1447 and from 1485 to 1509 freely available online in fully searchable texts.
The New Victoria County History of Hampshire
The original Victoria County History of Hampshire was completed by 1912 but these volumes or Red Books included only the leading families, the Church of England and charities in each parish entry. The aim of the new project is to rewrite the Hampshire volumes in the modern format specified by VCH central office, which includes economic and social history, religious life and political development.
