Committee minutes
The University of Winchester's committee agendas, minutes and meeting notes are regularly published in line with the Freedom of Information guidelines.
An overview of all the committees:
Senate (formerly Academic Board)
Senate is, subject to the provisions of the Articles of Association, to the overall responsibility of the Board of Governors, and to the responsibilities of the Vice Chancellor, responsible for appropriate matters relating to the University’s academic activities.
Board of Governors
The Board of Governors has a strategic role in forming the character and mission of the University; oversees its financial health and ensure its solvency and probity; monitors and benchmarks the University’s performance against its strategic plan and operational targets and is responsible for the selection, appraisal and remuneration of the Vice Chancellor, Deputy and Pro Vice Chancellors and the Clerk. The Board of Governors is not involved in the day to day management of the University.
Academic Standards Committee
Academic Standards Committee acts on behalf of Senate and is responsible for the validation and re-approval of programmes and the monitoring and maintenance of academic standards
Learning and Teaching Committee
Human Resources Committee
The Human Resources Committee has responsibility for the governance of employment related matters including the setting of a framework for the pay and conditions and development of staff and the procedures for their appointment.
Student Experience Committee
Foundation Committee
The Foundation Committee advises the Board of Governors on matters related to the Christian Foundation of the University and its expression.
Standing Committee
Standing Committee acts for the Board of Governors between meetings and has a specific responsibility for the governance of strategic planning, academic affairs, financial affairs, student affairs, estates and building maters. Standing Committee also undertakes a detailed examination of the annual estimates of income and expenditure, and the annual accounts. It also agrees the agenda for meetings of the Board of Governors.
Joint Health and Safety Committee
Audit Committee
The Audit Committee has very explicit terms of reference but is broadly responsible for examining the University’s risk management control and governance, and, arrangements for promoting economy, efficiency and effectiveness (value for money). Audit Committee also advises the Board of Governors on the appointment of the external and internal auditors and advises the Board on audit issues.
