Volunteering is a great way to:
- Gain new skills and achieve personal development
- Complement your studies
- Enhance your CV and employability
- Enhance your confidence in different situations
- Gain practical experience for career choices
- Make a difference
- Enjoy something different and new!
Examples of students’ volunteering opportunities include youth work activities, fundraising, event organisation, and sports coaching. Volunteering providers often appreciate the individual for what they can offer, as one student expressed: “When I’m volunteering I’m not known as being a student but as being me. I’m acknowledged for the personal qualities and skills that I can offer to help others.”

Give a little, gain a lot - take the Accredited Volunteering Module!
Take the University of Winchester’s Accredited Volunteering Module and gain valuable experience and life skills, whilst making a positive contribution to your local community and gaining credits. The University works closely with many local, national and international charitable organisations sourcing fantastic voluntary placement opportunities for students.
The module involves students completing a placement within a charitable or non-profitmaking organisation during what would normally be class contact time. Students are then required to complete an assessment at the end of the module, usually a reflective piece on the volunteering experience, their contribution to the organisation, the nature of charitable and non-profitmaking organisations and the skills and experience they have gained.
Here are some comments from students who have completed the module:
“The Volunteering Module gave me the ability to volunteer within the environment where I want to pursue my future career so I’ve gained experience and skills which will look great on my CV when I start to look for roles beyond my degree.”
“I suddenly realised the issues that charities face in order to continue to do what they do and it made me consider a career within an area which I’d never thought of before.”
“The Volunteering Module gave me an insight into what real life was going to be like beyond University.”
“I gained a great sense of personal achievement from my volunteering placement for the Module which motivated me to work harder on my course to get where I want to be.”
