The academic skills programme is designed to support the needs of all students from all levels and disciplines. Our emphasis is on enhancement of learning to assist students in achieving their full potential, to help improve their self-esteem and employability.
Our skills programme includes a wide range of workshops including Essay Writing, Academic Referencing, Exam Revision and Presentation Skills. We also run tailored workshops within the curriculum. In addition, we offer a one-to-one service where students can make an appointment with a study skills tutor.
Academic Skills is running two student mentoring schemes: the SMART Buddy scheme for UK, EU and PGCE students and the SMART Companion Scheme for International (non-EU) Undergraduate and Masters students.
Buddies and Companions are specially selected second and third years, trained to help their mentees excel in their studies, especially during their first year at University.
Winchester has also developed SkillsNet, an online resource that gives you tips and information, all designed to boost your academic performance.

SkillsNet provides easily accessible, relevant on-line resources to help you excel in your academic work. Whether you are preparing ahead, or working to a deadline, SkillsNet is there for you.
