"Cape Town, where I spent my formative years, is my starting point. The brilliance of the colours, the sense of space and light combine to form a quality that I have found difficult to put into words – hence the need for paint. These pictures are an attempt to articulate the visual excitement and awe I experienced in the Cape of Good Hope, The Mother City.
The viewer may find that in my efforts to convey excitement that the image leaps out of the surface, and seems to meet him halfway. He may also find that the image flickers in response to shifts in his gaze, enhancing the experience of liveliness. Hopefully this process of participation will invite the viewer to spend a little time with each image, in order to uncover or reveal the potential within the picture.
My methods are similar to those of the Systems Artists, and to the Constructivists; I share a concern for searching for truths in nature. My focus is outward rather than inward."
