With this exhibition, the Link Gallery offered a rare insight into the complexities of homelessness. With Others provided an opportunity to see award-winning images by freelance photographer Liz Hingley. It documents the photographers journey through France, Germany, Belgium, Bosnia, Holland and Italy, working closely with the homeless charity Emmaus. Emmaus is a unique organisation active in 44 countries across the world, offering homeless people a home, work and the chance to rebuild their lives in a supportive environment.
"Emmaus requires people to take charge of their lives and work in ecological business activities that fund the community," explained Liz. "The charity offers an alternative way of life for those on the fringes of society. By becoming immersed in the communities my photographs document the complex relationships between residents and the challenges of life."
With Others was commended by The Ian Parry Photography Scholarship in 2007 and also won the photographer a place as a finalist for The Terry ONeil Award the same year.
