Future exhibitions
Exhibitions coming up in 2012 include:
1952 - 2012: A Jubilee Exhibition of the University Estate
From end of May - end of June
When the Queen came to the throne in 1952 King Alfred’s College was just emerging from wartime requisition. There were 178 students. Floors had been scrubbed (some by the Principal himself); buildings were being put back in to into use; new privet hedges were planted along Sparkford Road. New gates were bought from the War Department’s final subvention. In 2012, now the University of Winchester, there is an optimism in the future expressed through a great building programme of award winning architecture developing new residential and academic buildings. Today there are some 7,000 students, 80% full-time. This exhibition explores how this extraordinary story is reflected in the development of the buildings.
