The Three Graces - Beltane Jackson
Sculpture on display on the University of Winchester's King Alfred campus
This metal sculpture, created in 2000, includes the three graces: Lady Grace, Miss Grace and Disgrace. It is one of two sculptures by Beltane Jackson that can be found on the University’s King Alfred campus.
As a student at Worthing and Brighton Schools of Art the sensuous feel of clay instilled in me a joy that remains to this day. The realities of a tough by satisfying working life in a bronze foundry, shipyards, engineering and construction are now to my advantage as a sculptor. Retirement re-aligned my thinking and I completed a four year part-time Diploma in Fine Art course at the Southampton Institute of Higher Education.
The 3 Graces was the major piece of four sculptures submitted for my Diploma. Constructed in mild steel, height 7’6”, the conjoined figures create a variety of patterns viewed from any angle.
I have exhibited with Hampshire Sculpture Trust over several years, and also with the Sculptors in the South. Recently made an Honorary Member of 2D3D South Contemporary Art, having been a member from its formation in 1991.
