Sociology

Now in its second year, this popular and vibrant course brings students together to become part of a wider sociological community, both within and outside the University

Why study Sociology?

Sociology is a challenging and popular subject. It offers illuminating insights into societies by exploring human activity and the social structures that operate within our social world. Sociology at Winchester adheres to rigorous academic standards and opens the door to a range of career opportunities. Students can go on to gain employment in a variety of fields, ranging from graduate management training schemes, the civil service, local government, the police and voluntary agencies to teaching at Further and Higher Education Institutions (BSA, 2010).

Why study at Winchester?

Sociology at Winchester is not just concerned about the United Kingdom, it focusses on global issues as well. This is important because we live in an increasingly interconnected social world. The programme is ideally suited for students with an inquiring and open mind who value the freedom to think critically and want to develop and enrich their sociological knowledge and skills.

What courses are available?

You can study Sociology as a Single Honours programme or part of a Combined Honours programme. Lots of students study Single Honours Sociology, but equally, a lot of students choose Sociology alongside their other subject.
