Collaborative Provision

The University of Winchester has entered into collaborative arrangements with a number of partner institutions both within the UK and overseas, under which programmes of study leading to University awards will be offered at the partner institution.

The University is responsible for the academic standards of all qualifications granted in its name and will ensure the integrity of its awards, the maintenance of standards and the quality of the students’ learning experience for all courses delivered on campus or at partner institutions. Programmes offered through collaborative arrangements must meet required academic standards and are subject to the University Academic Regulations. In developing collaborative provision the University must be assured that the student opportunities for learning at collaborative partner institutions are consistent with those provided within the University, that academic standards are equivalent to those of comparable qualifications within the University, and that collaborating partners reflect the ethos, mission and values of the University.

The standard expected of a qualification in a partner institution is the same as that for a corresponding or comparable qualification in the University and should conform to the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) and Subject benchmarks recognised in the UK.

Once programmes are being delivered by a Partner, there are a number of additional procedures in place to help the University assure itself that its academic standards are being maintained

Definitions

All partnerships with another institution or organisation leading to an award are classed as collaborative provision. The University has found it practical to standardise this as follows:

a) collaborative awards are awards in which the University’s own quality assurance structures apply to the partner programme through the relevant Faculty Quality Committee and a programme and department at Winchester which acts as a link. This will be set out in the Memorandum of Agreement.

b)  validated awards are awards in which the partner has responsibility for quality assurance, its processes having been granted autonomy and declared fit for purpose. In addition the partner will have general responsibility for matters such as student records, including final transcripts, general issues of student support and learning resources.
