Purple Flag Award
Winchester won a Purple Flag in 2010, a national award which recognises cities that are safe and enjoyable places for a night out.
Winchester was one of only six cities in the UK to win the award.
For Winchester to win Purple Flag status the city must:
- Welcoming to all
- Provide facilities to ensure safe travel for visitors
- Have a good mix of venues and attractions for both day and night
In addition, Purple Flag towns are likely to benefit from lower crime rates, anti-social behaviour and more visitors. To date there are only nine Purple Flag holders across the UK and we are delighted to be one of them.
