Israel/Palestine Dialogue Group
Following the success of our Israel/Palestine seminar series, and in particular the interest generated by Danny Habel’s excellent lecture ‘Israel: Hero or Villain?’, the centre is about to initiate an Israel/Palestine discussion group which will meet approximately once a month at the University of Winchester. Exploring the Role of Faith in Public Life
In May this year Dr Anna King and Dr Mark Owen attended an event exploring the role of faith in shaping public and international policy. The event brought together academics, religious leaders from a wider range of faiths, and policy makers to explore what contribution can/should faith-based groups make to shaping our society. Murder in the Name of God:A Policy Debate on the Rise of Extremism Internationally and its Impact on Britain
On the 18th May Dr Owen was invited to the House of Commons to participate in a policy debate on the rise of violent extremism internationally, and its potential impact on Britain. Read more here.
Protecting Planet Earth: Religion and Climate Change
In April 2011 the University of Winchester hosted an event for young people, in partnership with Winchester Action against Climate Change and Hampshire County Council, which focused on the issues of Religion and Climate Change. To read more please click here.
A Moment of Truth: The Kairos Palestine Document
On the 2nd November 2010 the Winchester Centre of Religions for Reconciliation and Peace hosted a workshop to discuss the contents of the Kairos Palestine document. To learn more about the Kairos Palestine event click here.
The Holy Land
In August this year Dr Brian Walker travelled to Israel/Palestine to learn more about the present situation on the ground and to further develop the centre’s partnerships with organisations in this troubled area.To learn more about Dr Walker's trip click here.
Centre Launch
May 20th saw the official launch of Winchester Centre of Religions for Reconciliation and Peace. The Centre was extremely delighted to welcome Bishop Joseph C. Humper to give the inaugural lecture commemorating the official launch of the Winchester Centre of Religions for Reconciliation and Peace. To read more please click here.
Effective and Sustainable Reconciliation
On 21-23rd May 2010 Winchester Centre of Religions for Reconciliation and Peace organised a weekend consultation in partnership with St George’s House and St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace at St. George’s House in the magnificent grounds of Windsor Castle. Exploring concerns of Tibetans refugees in India with the Tibetan Centre of Conflict Resolution
In April this year (2010) Dr Mark Owen travelled to Dharamsala in North India, home of the Tibetan exiled leader the Dalai Lama, to finalise the details of a research project being developed in partnership between the Winchester Centre of Religions for Reconciliation and Peace and the Tibetan Centre of Conflict Resolution. 60 Years of Hidden Genocide?
In May 2010 the centre collaborated with the Hampshire Tamil Association (HTA) to present a lecture examining the evidence of human rights abuses against the Tamils in Sri Lanka.To read more please click here.
