About the Centre of Religions for Reconciliation and Peace

The centre was established with the primary objective of undertaking world class research which has a direct, tangible, and positive impact on people’s everyday lives.

In addition to more traditional academic research and activities the centre has a strong focus on practical projects and initiatives. Examples of the type of work we currently undertake are:

  • Facilitation of dialogue groups on topics related to religion and conflict resolution
  • Seminars and conferences in the areas of Religion, Reconciliation and Peacebuilding.
  • Assisting with capacity building and project design for religious groups and faith-based organisations involved in conflict prevention, resolution and peacebuilding work.
  • World class academic research in the areas of Religion, Reconciliation and Peacebuilding.
  • Producing associated resources for academics, faith groups and peace practitioners working in this area.
  • Acting as consultants in public policy debate and formation.
  • Acting as consultants to NGO’s and peace practitioners who would like to know more about working with faith-based groups and communities.
  • Providing a nexus for the bringing together academics, facilitators and religious groups working in the areas of conflict prevention, resolution and peacebuilding.

In the near future we will also be:

  • Offering Conflict Resolution, facilitation and dialogue training.
  • Offering undergraduate and postgraduate provision for studies in the area of Religion, Conflict Resolution, and Peacebuilding

The Nexus between religious leaders, academics, and peace practitioners is highly complex and there is a wide range of ways in which these actors can and have engaged in conflict resolution and peace processes. The centre’s work focuses on making these relationships better understood by all parties, so that partnerships are more mutually beneficial, and as a consequence the effectiveness of reconciliation and peacebuilding initiatives are enhanced.
