Introduction
The Institute for Theological Partnerships was the brainchild of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joy Carter in 2008 and I am delighted to have been asked to be the Director of this unique venture. The Institute has at its heart the Christian Foundation of the University and its primary mission statement 'To educate, to advance knowledge and to serve the public good' and we are committed to supporting and nurturing a variety of spiritual and religious traditions, and seek to enable innovative theological engagements.
The Institute has both national and international partnerships all of which are dedicated to theological research and education within their communities. It is the contextual nature of the partnerships that adds weight to the research and commitment to the teaching. The cross fertilisation of ideas that partners can share within this environment is a valuable way in which to unpack and consider theological argument.
The work of the Institute falls into three main categories: academic partnerships through the validation of partner courses, research and knowledge transfer through an international research forum and an ongoing ecotheological project, the Cosmic Walk. In addition we host international conferences which in many cases develop the interest of partners.
