Dioceses of Winchester and Portsmouth
The Dioceses of Winchester and Portsmouth run a Foundation degree in Christian Theology and Ministry (FdCTM) which was valided in 2006.
Background
The Diocese of Winchester covers the majority of Hampshire, an area of eastern Dorset and the Channel Islands, ministering to a population of 1.2 million. It has a significant rural ministry, with more than half of its parishes in rural areas. It also includes the urban areas of Andover, Basingstoke, Bournemouth and Southampton.
The Diocese of Portsmouth consists of 142 parishes in south-east Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It is one of the smaller dioceses in the Church of England, and was founded relatively recently, in 1927.
Programme:
The Foundation Degree programme leads to licensing for the Ministry of Reader in the Church of England. It is based on the Church of England Reader Training course as delivered by the dioceses of Winchester and Portsmouth. It is delivered over 4 years and students develop the skills to preach, teach, and lead worship with confidence. A particular emphasis is placed on learning through experience and consequently students are required to allow their theological study to interact with their pastoral work. The programme is taught through a mixture of extensive module handbooks, tutorial groups, and residential weekends.
