Expertise

After starting her career in health visiting and school nursing, working with children, young people and their families Paula moved into education.

She is experienced in developing, teaching and managing courses and programmes relating to children and young people including the FdA Working with Children, Early Years Professional Status, BA Early Years Practice, Post Graduate Certificate in Early Years Practice (M level), the Professional Graduate Certificate in Early Years Practice (H level), BA (Hons) Childhood, Youth and Community Studies and NVQ Assessor and Verifiers Awards.

Paula has set up new departments and managed their rapid growth. She has a wide experience of partnership working with Local Authorities and employers to ensure that programme development meets the needs of employers and supports the employability of students.

Research Interests

Paula is currently interested in 'Quality of Life Issues' for children, young people and young adults with chronic health conditions. Previous completed research projects include:

  • A report of the 'Study of the effects of Sun Safety' resources used by 1,000 children in Hampshire, Sussex and Wiltshire in 1998 for Cancer Research Campaign (unpublished), completed at Health Education Unit, Research and Graduate School of Education, Southampton University
  • 'Nursery Nurses Perception of their Role in Health Promotion' (unpublished), research completed as part of the MA (Ed) Health Promotion, Southampton University
