Born in India but brought up in Birmingham. I qualified as a social worker from Ruskin College, Oxford. Along with being a registered social worker with the HCPC I hold an MSc in Development Studies. For the last 25 years I have taught in the university sector, primarily on social work, social policy and community development programmes but have extensive experience on teaching on issues of migration, refugees and race.
I currently have a research application with the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation to investigate ‘social work education and practice with refugees and displaced people in Kurdistan, Iraq and Ukraine'. In 2012 I was part of a UNICEF funding project that evaluated social work education and practice in Kurdistan.
