Primary Practice

The BA (Honours) in Educational Practice is a Level 6 only programme for students normally progressing from a Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies.

Most students will be working as Teaching Assistants or in a voluntary capacity in an educational setting (for example, a school, museum or study centre) with an appropriate background and 240 CATS credits from previous study. There are two pathways of 60 credits (one year to a pass degree) and 120 credits (two years to honours). This is a part-time progression route.

This programme will widen and deepen the skills, knowledge and experience of practitioners so that they can reflect critically on their own practice and take ownership of their professional developement. Students on all routes undertake a double module that informs their professional practice and underpins the Level 6 pathway.Alongside the double module are optional modules.Students studytwo optional modules for the 60 credit pass degree and four for the honours route. Students on the honours route also undertake a dissertation.

Although this degree does not give you qualified teacher status, it does give you the ideal foundation from which to apply for PGCE or Graduate Teacher programmes for school-based learning, or alternatively M level initiatives.

To enable students to continue work in their settings, the programme is currently concentrated into one study day per week, over two semesters. The teaching currently runs from the end of September to July.
