Social Work

BSc (Hons) Social Work has been listed as one of the 'top social work courses' by the Community Care online bulletin, July 2010.

BSc (Hons) Social Work is one of only 14 (out of 83) such programmes in England to have fully met the national requirements set out by the General Social Care Council (GSCC) and the Department of Health.

Social work at Winchester is a rigorous, dynamic and rewarding programme of study which equips students to work with people from diverse backgrounds using a range of intervention methods. The programme is responsive to the rapidly changing broader social context and facilitates students to be able to meet this challenge confidently and creatively. A student-centred approach to the teaching-learning enterprise supports individual students in developing a unique professional identity.

The programme has the approval of the General Social Care Council. The GSCC site will give you access to the published annual monitoring report and the response.

Entry requirements for the BSc (Hons) Social Work at Winchester are informed by those set by the Department of Health.

A range of assessment procedures are used throughout the three years of study in order to ensure that students are provided with ongoing feedback on their progress and to ensure that, on completion of the programme, they meet the National Occupational Standards for Social Work. Assessment procedures include oral and written presentations, essays, project reports, practice portfolios, examinations and observation of practice.
