Trial Simulation Study

Prof Emily Finch research is in the

  •  operation of the criminal law
  •  criminal justice system.

At present, this has two main strands: firstly, the criminogenic potential of the Internet and, secondly, factors that influence jury decision-making. I am currently involved in a trial simulation study that explores the extent to which jurors fill the evidential gaps by looking up information on the Internet. This will be followed by a further simulation study that investigates who public perceptions of dishonesty influence jury verdicts. This builds on a mass participation study of opinions about dishonesty that I carried out in conjunction with the British Science Association (see www.honestylab.com).
