Brian Thornton is a journalist and Senior Lecturer in Journalism. He worked for the BBC for more than a decade in various online and television roles. Before moving to academia he was a producer on the BBC Newsnight programme. He continues to work as a journalist for the BBC, Yahoo! and various other outlets such as The Guardian.
Brian is one of the founders of the University's Crime and Justice Research Centre, which specialises in issues related to miscarriages of justice. He is also founder and director of the Winchester Innocence Project. His research into miscarriages of justice have been featured on BBC Television, BBC News Online, The Mail on Sunday, and The Guardian. Brian combines his journalism with his interest in criminal justice in his role as commissioning editor on the award-winning website The Justice Gap.
