Prof. Marcus Leaning received his BA in Politics and Sociology at the University of the West of England in 1994, his M.Sc in Social Analysis from South Bank University London in 1998 and his PhD from the University of Luton (now the University of Bedfordshire ) in 2004. He worked at Trinity College Carmarthen (now University of Wales Trinity St David) from 2002 before joining the University of Winchester as Programme Leader for Media Studies in 2009.
He was appointed Head of the School of Media and Film in 2012 and stood down from this role in 2016. In Semester 1 2016-2017 he was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Limerick in the Republic of Ireland. He was appointed Professor in June 2017.
As a former Senior Fellow in Learning and Teaching he teaches in the fields of media theory, research methods, and aspects of new media. His research centres upon the understanding of digital media, media education and related topics.
