Biography
Richard joined the University in 2005 from Palmerston North, New Zealand. He was lecturing on a degree in Human Performance as well as developing a broad coaching portfolio. His work involved sport science support for the national white water kayaking squad, provincial netball as well as provincial rugby achieving success with Massey University and Manawatu Sevens and the New Zealand Under17 squad.He completed his Masters in Sport Science at Brunel University in 1999, completing a published dissertation with Dr. Robyn Jones.
Since joining Winchester, Richard has taught on the Degree in Sports Development and been an integral part in the introduction of the BA (Hons) in Sports Coaching and Development. In addition to this he has introduced a number of coaching awards which form part of the Coach Education Programme. These include tennis, rugby and football and a range of Sports Coach UK coach education courses. Richard has continued to establish inks with local sports organisations through volunteering, guest speaking, consultancy and coach development opportunities. The new focus is on the degree in sports coaching and development which started in September 2009 and further enrichment and employability opportunities for students. He continues his research focus and conference presentations on volunteering as well as coach education. Richard is an experienced Coach Educator for both London South and Hampshire RFU. In 2010 he completed the Atacama Desert Ultra marathon in Chile and has a keen interest in endurance and adventure racing.
