27 April 2011

Dr Natalia Yakovleva (l) in with fellow academics SeattleNatalia presented the research findings based on data collected during two fieldworks in Ghana during 2005-2008. The paper analyses implications of several interventions introduced in artisanal small-scale mining (ASM) sector in Ghana during 1989-2005. These interventions involved different international organisations, Ghanaian government departments, mining companies and small-scale miners. Using the institutional analysis and design (IAD) framework updated for environmental governance situations, the paper examined the interventions on three levels: constitutional, institutional and operational to investigate which parties participated in these initiatives and whose interests were recognised and how.
