Several members of the Archaeology staff make their expertise available to commercial clients via the Department's consultancy arm, ARCA
ARCA (Archaeological Associates) was founded in 2005 and since then has undertaken projects in most counties in southern and central England as well as in Cumbria, Worcester, Jersey and contintental Europe.
ARCA specialises in geophysical survey (magnetometry, resistivity and magnetic susceptibility), geomatics (measured survey using total stations and dGPS, manipulation of airborne and satellite data, data integration using GIS) and geoarchaeology. In respect of the latter, ARCA has particular expertise in carrying out geoarchaeological assessments and evaluations (typically using borehole survey), describing, analysing and modelling deeply stratified sediment sequences, and interpreting archaeological stratigraphy.
