BA (Hons) Education Studies

Our External Examiner recently reported that in his view, ‘this is one of the finest courses of its kind in the country...

not only because of the intellectual rigour and the excitement it generates, but also because of the authenticity of voice and sense of independence the Education Studies learning community develops in its students'. His view was endorsed by QAA who awarded the Programme a maximum 24 marks.

The Education Studies programme has a carefully thought out model of intellectual progression. As we will encourage you to develop your own ideas and philosophies of education, we think it important that the course reflects our own philosophy of education.

Our model has three stages.

In level 4 we ask you to reflect upon your own educational experiences, to compare them with those of others and to comment on how they have influenced or affected you. We will provide various contexts in which these discussions can take place.

In level 5 we ask you to suspend the personal in order to engage with a variety of social, political, philosophical and cultural perspectives and theories. We see level 5 as a vital building block in developing a more informed, thoughtful and authoritative student voice.
