Doctor of Education (EdD)

The Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD) offers practitioners in a wide variety of educational settings the opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills while undertaking innovative projects in the workplace.

Prior to developing their thesis candidates undertake a suite of structured learning experiences, focussed on their interests and areas of expertise. This enables them to extend their ability to evaluate current policy and practice for their setting, to design and manage desired change, and to develop the practice of colleagues in order to improve outcomes for pupils, students and trainees.

The EdD programme offers a choiceof pathways:

  • Leading Practice pathway for those who have responsibilities for developing the pedagogy of colleagues, whether in medical education, schools and early years settings, or delivering training for organisations such as the police and armed services.
  • The Cultural and Creative Education pathway caters for curriculum leaders in school and post 16 education and for education officers in settings such as museums, galleries, national parks and zoos.
