PGCE Information for Students accepted on the PT Programme
This is the home page for students accepted on to the PGCE Part Time Route for March 2012. Please check this page regularly from January 2012 onwards for information about pre-course requirements.
Managing self-directed days
Over the two years that you will studying with us, you will need to complete an additional 15 self-directed days in mainstream primary settings. These are placements that you will arrange yourself and are in addition to the two full-time school placements arranged by our Partnership Office. There are a number of ways that students use their self-directed days:
- To support learning on the taught course
- To give additional experience in an unfamiliar year group/key stage
- To complete university-based tasks
- To undertake focussed observations of good practice
When arranging your placements, consider your existing links with local schools and build on these or you may decide to write to a local Headteacher offering to volunteer and explain that you are on the PGCE (PT) programme. It is not possible for us to make these introductions for you.
You will also need to spend one day in Foundation Stage and one day in a Key Stage 3 setting.
Draft timetable
Your draft timetable for your first year highlights what and when you will be taught. Please be advised that there are often additional meetings set for a Wednesday to meet with Personal Tutors or to meet with the Partnership team. It is therefore useful to consider Wednesdays as a 9.30 - 5.30 day.
Reading list
The reading list offers some useful suggestions of titles that you may wish to begin exploring through your own local library. You are not expected to buy these books, as we have an extensive library. However, titles highlighted in bold are useful ones that would support you throughout your course and into your teaching career.
Welcome letter
We look forward to meeting you all in March and will send more details about the Inclusion Weeks in January
