Information on pre-programme placements
Please use the pre-programme handbook for guidance.
Your two week placement in school needs to be in classes in KS1 and/or KS2 in a state-maintained school. Ideally you should spend consistent time in two classes rather than in many classes, although you will need to be guided by what the school feels able to offer you. A useful way of managing your time would be a week in a KS 1 class and a week in a KS2 class. If your placement school is a single key stage setting this will need to be arranged as a week in each of Y1 and Y2 at an Infant school, or a week in each of lower and upper KS2 at a Junior school.
KS 3 and Foundation Stage experience is to be gathered in addition to the two week placement. This can be arranged at any point in your programme prior to your final school experience although we strongly advise you to try and complete these days before you start. You need to spend one day in each age phase and record this using the form you will find in the Resources section below.
The start date for PGCE Primary Full Time students is Monday September 17th 2012.
More details about registration, induction and other pre-programme information will be posted during the summer. If you are planning your pre-programme two weeks placement now, please note that schools are not necessarily back as early as September 3rd and that you may encounter difficulties fitting in the days that you need to do if you leave it that late. We advise June/July as a more practical time.
