BA (Hons) Drama (2008-2011)
Artistic Director, Fluid Motion Theatre Company/
Arts Development Officer, Hampshire County Council
Whilst at University, I formed the Fluid Motion Theatre Company with a fellow student; and we are now successfully into our fourth year of operations.
The company aims to put theatre into the community though participatory performance and we have worked with lots of fantastic groups of people from young carers through to homeless adults. My job allows me to deliver exciting projects that engage with people from all walks of life, giving them the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop an interest in the arts.
In addition to this I am also Arts Development Officer at Hampshire County Council. In this role, my main responsibility is the on-going development of an outreach and education programme in South East Hampshire. This includes planning and delivering a range of innovative and imaginative arts projects with young people and adults that reflect key local or national themes. For example, a current project has been the delivery of a county-wide animation project which brought together over 100 young people and three branches of the armed forces.
In both jobs, I find it rewarding to take a group of people who have had little or no access to the arts before and help them construct something creative that they are proud of. I love working in an industry that is so full of life, where the smallest idea can turn into something massive and that is what I have seen so far in my career.
The BA Drama degree was a brilliant way of helping me get out of my shell and understand what was possible in the world of work when I left. The course also allowed me to experiment with any ideas I had and gave me the space and support I needed to test them out.
