Athletics Track and Field
The Winchester Sports Stadium encompasses a top class eight-lane athletics track.
It is open throughout the week and is the host to Winchester and District Athletics Club along with a number of schools, elite athletes and organisations based throughout the community.
Work began to redevelop Bar End in July 2007 and it cost £3.5 million. The project was managed by the University of Winchester with support and money from Winchester City Council, Hampshire County Council and Winchester and District Athletic Club. The project also successfully bid for funding from Sport England and the Norwich Union Community Sports Fund.
The facility provides:
- 8 lane athletics track with two straights
- 2 long/triple jump pits
- 1 infield shot circle
- 1 external gravel shot circle
- 4 pole vault locations and 2 beds
- 1 Hammer Cage suitable for hammer and discuss
- 2 javelin approaches
- Floodlighting

- 6 changing rooms
- reception area (suitable formeetings/athlete briefings)
- Toilets including 3 disabled
- Showers
- Lockers
- Refreshments
- On site track staff
