Let’s Get Sporty – Sports Holiday Camps at Winchester Sports Stadium for 8-16 years olds

21 July 2010

The University of Winchester is holding a series of Sports Holiday Camps from 26 July for 8-16 year olds at its Winchester Sports Stadium over the school holiday.

A range of sports are available at the Camps including athletics, football, hockey, rugby, ultimate frisbee, rounders, bowls, golf and cricket.

“The Sports Holiday Camps are a great way to keep your children entertained and healthy during the school holidays,” commented Claire Mitchell, Facilities Business Manager at the University of Winchester. “The Camps are run by an enthusiastic team of sports coaches who have experience of working with young people. Participants will have the opportunity to try out some sports they may not have done before and the Stadium offers outstanding facilities.”

The University of Winchester’s Winchester Sports Stadium is located at Bar End and is open to the general public for booking and membership. It offers a competition standard 400m eight-lane athletics track with supporting facilities for field events, an all-weather sports pitch, floodlighting and a pavilion.

The Stadium opened in July 2008 and cost £3.5 million. The project was managed by the University of Winchester with support and money from Winchester City Council, Hampshire County Council and Winchester and District Athletic Club. The project also secured grant funding from Sport England and the Norwich Union Community Sports Fund.

The Sports Holiday Camps take place on 26-30 July; 9-13 August and 16-20 August and are available to 8-16 year olds. Sessions cost £12.50 for a half day (8.30am-12pm or 12.45pm-4pm), £20 for a full day (8.30am-4pm) and there are discount rates for four days (£75) and five days (£85).
