University’s Centre for Gender Studies supports Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month
The Centre for Gender Studies at the University of Winchester will be celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month this February with an open event (21 February) to discuss current research on the concept of ‘gender’.
The Centre for Gender Studies at the University of Winchester will be celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month this February with an open event (21 February) to discuss current research on the concept of ‘gender’.
The research forum will include lecturers and researchers from across the University, sharing their findings on a range of gender related subjects.
The introduction and welcome will be given by Professor Elizabeth Stuart, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor, who has published ten books on Theology and Sexuality. Papers under discussion will include ‘Kissing, cuddling and loving other boys; why straight boys are acting so gay’, ‘Why queer art matters now’, ‘Categorising sexual orientation’, ‘Guanyin and queer theology’, ‘What it means to be a ‘real’ man in South Africa’ and ‘Mixed gender roles in historic and contemporary North American Indian societies’.
The Centre for Gender Studies was launched last June during Universities Week and aims to encourage and develop diverse understanding concerning the social category of gender as well as its intersection with other social categories such as age, class, ethnicity, nationality, race, religion and sexuality.
This LGBT History Month event at the University of Winchester in partnership with ‘Out in Hampshire’ will take place in the Shakespeare Room at the West Downs Conference Centre, Romsey Road, Winchester SO22 5HT at 5.30pm-7.30pm on Tuesday 21 February.
