Several Shades of Dickens " a festive celebration of Hampshire's Greatest Writer will welcome Rosalinda Hardiman, Curator of the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum in Portsmouth. She will be joined by performance artist and poet Steve Tasane for a festive celebration of Dickens's life and work.
Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth and was the creator of some of the world's most memorable fictional characters. In keeping with this, the Hampshire Writers' Society is encouraging people to dress in Dickensian costume for the evening and to bring along a letter (250 words maximum) to Father Christmas written by a Dickens character.
Several Shades of Dickens will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 11 December at The Stripe, University of Winchester, Sparkford Road, Winchester SO22 4NR. Free parking is available. HWS members and all students Free. Non members £5. Refreshments will be available from 7pm.
The Hampshire Writers' Society is an offshoot of the Winchester Writers' Conference, now in its 33rd year at the University of Winchester. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 7.30-10pm at the University.
