Alumni Voices: The Changing Experience of Higher Education is by Dr Stephanie Spencer (Academic Head of Department/Reader – Education Studies and Liberal Arts, University of Winchester), Dr Andrea Jacobs (Visiting Research Fellow, University of Winchester) and Dr Camilla Leach (Visiting Research Fellow, University of Winchester).
Alumni Voices uses data from an oral history project focusing on the day-to-day experiences of those who studied and worked in one institution to explore a way of writing the history of higher education of the recent past. It includes testimony from many perspectives across the power spectrum. While data from, the University of Winchester, as exemplar, are used, the book reflects many of the changes in higher education within the United Kingdom as a whole over the past 60 years.
Alumni Voices is part of the Winchester University Press Education in Context Series, edited by Stephanie Spencer, which aims to explore new theoretical and methodological directions in educational research. Education is conceptualised as an on-going process that occurs both inside and outside the classroom within a range of historical and geographical settings. Titles draw on interdisciplinary and transnational methodologies in order to emphasise the relationship between education and society across time and place.
Alumni Voices is published by Winchester University Press, as part of the University’s 175th Anniversary celebrations.
