Drinks reception and an evening in conversation with Maddy Harland
On Thursday 12th October 2017, the Institute for Theological Partnerships (ITP) will be hosting an evening of conversation with Maddy Harland (ITP Knowledge Exchange Fellow) on environmental activism, permaculture, regenerative agriculture, deep ecology and spirituality.
Maddy Harland is a co-founder and editor of Permaculture International: practical solutions beyond sustainability, a magazine which offers practical, innovative solutions and global perspectives. She is an activist, publisher, gardener, teacher, community leader, Queens’ Award winning entrepreneur, mother and ground-breaking woman. She has been a Knowledge Exchange Fellow at the Institute for Theological Partnerships since 2015.
Recently invited to be a member of The Commonwealth’s Regenerative Development to Reverse Climate Change initiative, Maddy has also found time to put together her book Fertile Edges: Regenerating Land, Culture and Hope as Permaculture magazine celebrates its 25th Anniversary year. She will be reading extracts from her book during the course of the evening and copies will be on sale.
Maddy’s passion for life in all its forms leaps off the pages and indeed one is left feeling that this passion has simply increased over the years rather than diminished under the weight of what appears to be an ever greater crisis. No activist burn out for her. Along with the passion comes a deep embodied wisdom and an eloquence that enables it to be shared- or should I say caught - as this is no simple intellectual exercise of knowing, Maddy has a knowledge that comes from every cell of her being. I encourage you to read this book and catch the passion and the wisdom.
