TA Music Grant 2012
Funded by the TA this music grant enables two pilot modules to be developed to address the diverse needs of trainees in the teaching of primary music. The modules are being developed in close collaboration with Hampshire Music Service, to ensure that the content reflects a broad range of best practice in primary music teaching. The teaching and learning approaches in the pilot modules will be centred on facilitating collaborative learning within school-based contexts, which will also form the basis of professional dialogue with University-based sessions.
Module 1 " Developmental
This module focusses on developing trainees' confidence; skills; knowledge and understanding of the elements of music and enhancing their pedagogical skills in teaching music.
Module 2 " Advanced
This module focusses on extending trainees' skills, knowledge and understanding of the elements of music, enhancing their confidence and pedagogical skills and enabling them to support other colleagues in teaching music. A particular area of focus is to support development of pedagogical skills through opportunities to implement findings from recent research.
TA Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Grant 2012
Can mobile learning benefit the process of learning? This was the question asked when successfully applying for the TA Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Grants 2012. Through the use of iPads this project is exploring:
1) how mobile technology makes learning more personalised;
2) how it extends learning beyond the classroom; and
3) how it gives the user greater independence in their learning.
Nine iPads are being used in a number of teaching situations. The students will build a case study of how the iPads enhance their teaching and the children's learning during their placement and then will present their findings. The students also have the support of Jon Audain, a UK Apple Distinguished Educator. A project website to support our students and partnership schools is being developed and an 'iPad in Education' conference with key speakers is to be held in November 2012, at which iPad use in both primary and secondary schools will be discussed.
