Money: Imaginaries of Capital Symposium
The annual symposium of the Centre for Research in Communication, Cultural, and Media Studies, Monday 10 May 2010.
The symposium examined how different ways of imagining money further projects of systematisation, fantasy, social criticism and political transformation. Special attention was paid to historical crashes and economic crises from the 19th to the 21st century, and their representation in a range of cultural forms including literature, film, and journalism. The symposium also discussed the textual aspects of money, from the significance of banknotes to its instantiation of capital.
