Everything you need to know to apply for a research degree at the University of Winchester

The Application process

To apply for a research degree at the University of Winchester, you need to make sure that we can supervise your proposed research project. Please check the lists of Research Supervisors and contact academic members of staff for advice. Once you have established that you can be supervised, you need to complete one of the forms below. Please note that the Application Guidelines are currently under revision; up-to-date Guidelines will be posted here soon.

  • Application for Research Degree Candidature ('Form A')
  • Transfer from another Institution ('Form Y')

In addition to the relevant form, you will also need to fill out an Ethics Release and Approval Form ('Form B'). Please note: before filling in Form B, it is essential that you read the Research & Knowledge Exchange Ethics Policy, which can be found HERE.

All forms are available for download in the Form Bank in the right-hand side column.

Return your completed forms, both electronically and in hard copy, together with 2 passport photos, to Chrissie Ferngrove, RKE Coordinator at the Research & Knowledge Exchange Centre (for contact details, see the right-hand side column).

Please note that there are two start dates in the academic year:

  • mid-September: deadline for applications is end of May
  • mid-January: deadline for applications is end of October

Bursaries and expenses
