How to apply

In order to apply for housing, you must have selected Winchester as your first, firm choice through UCAS.

Undergraduate Students

We are currently allocating rooms in University housing to those who applied before the 1st August.  We are confident that once those allocations are done, we will have some rooms to offer to later applicant students.  We are working through this process as quickly as possible, but please be patient while it takes place.

We are running a waiting list for students who did not apply before the 1st August.  We will offer rooms in University housing to those on the waiting list as soon as we have accommodated all those who applied before 1st August, including those who are exercising an insurance option.  We are confident this will be before the start of term for some on the waiting list.  If you have firmly accepted a place at the University and would like to be added to the waiting list for University housing, please fill in the Housing Details Form below and return it as per the instructions on the form.

Please note, we can offer no guarantee of a room in University housing before the start of term to those who did not apply before the 1st August.  You are therefore advised to investigate options in the private sector or to consider if you can commute initially as well as applying to go on the waiting list.  If you can commute initially, we usually have a number of rooms that become available in the first few weeks of term.

Please read the notes that come with the form as they detail exactly how we can help you. All applications will be checked on arrival in the housing office. Any applications from students who are not eligible to apply will be declined and the student will be asked to reapply once they hold Winchester as firm.

25 mile radius

Priority is given to students who live more than 25 miles from the King Alfred Campus. If we are oversubscribed, students living within this radius will be placed on a waiting list and slotted into places as they come up (either through deferrals or withdrawals). Distances will be calculated using http://www.theaa.com/ (using SO22 4NR as the starting postcode).

We would encourage those within 25 miles to strongly consider commuting initially if we are not able to offer you a room before the start of term.  We usually get a good number of rooms becoming available within the first few weeks of term.  These rooms are offered to students on the waiting list as soon as possible.

Postgraduate students

Unfortunately we do not have rooms available on campus for postgraduate students. Please download our Postgraduate Housing Information Form and return it to us. We will then send you information about securing Private Sector accommodation.
