Full time students

Q. How do I apply for a student loan for academic year 2012/2013?
A. Please click here to go to the direct.gov site. The service is now open for applications.

Q. How do I apply for a Fee Waiver/Bursary
A. Click here for information about applying for our fee waivers and bursaries.

Q. Can I get my Bursary earlier than the date they’re meant to be paid?
A. No, will not be considered under our University Support Policy.

Q. How is my Bursary paid?
A. It is paid direct into your bank account on in May. The exact payment date will be on your Entitlement Letter.

Q. Why haven’t I been awarded a bursary/award even though I meet all the criteria?
A. Have you applied for a Loan?

  • Yes - Then phone 0845 300 50 90 and give your consent to share your information
  • No - You need to register with the SLC (complete PN1 Form for new students, or PR1 form for continuing students) even if you don’t want the loans. This gets you on the system which we use to pay our awards. You will need to do this each year of your studies.

Q. Does the University provide support for current students experiencing financial difficulties?

Access to Learning Funds are available for UK students experiencing exceptional, unforeseen hardship, particularly second and third year students, single parents, students with dependents and students with special needs. Students can only apply for the access to learning fund if they are a current student at the university. For more information on our Access to Learning Fund, please contact Student Services on 01962 827341 or by email Student.Services@winchester.ac.uk.

Part time students

Q. Can part time students get student loans?
A. Yes - Tuition Fee Loans are available to UK and EU undergraduates who start their course after September 2012 provided they are studying at least 25 per cent of an equivalent full-time course in the relevant academic year. Maintenance loans and grants are only available to full time students. Q. Can I get bursaries and fee waivers?
A. No - to get these awards, you must be studying full time and paying the full fee
