Academic development
One of the key ways that we can create an excellent learning environment at the University of Winchester is making sure that all our teaching staff are trained as teachers, and that we continue to support staff in their interests in learning and teaching as part of their careers.
The Learning and Teaching Development Unit (LTDU) plays a key role in supporting the academic development of staff, as part of their Continuing Professional Development. The LTDU organises events such as Learning Lunches where staff can discuss and share ideas with colleagues or have the opportunity of undertaking training.
It also administers a range of grants that staff can apply for to develop their own Learning and Teaching projects, or to visit conferences or get external training. The LTDU also runs the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCLTHE), which is a qualification that all new lecturing staff must undertake, and which is also open to Higher and Further Education teachers outside the University.
The LTDU also offers a range of one-to-one support sessions for all staff – if you would like to get in touch, please email ltdu@winchester.ac.uk
