SkillsNet - Skills on the web
It is a web-based resource that brings together the expertise of central Study Skills, Faculty and programme-level resources to allow students to access more readily information and available resources to support their learning.
It is a common problem in HE that there is no shortage of support available to students, but this information is not necessarily easy to locate, particularly at the moment it is required. SkillsNet focuses on providing easy access for students (and staff) to academic skills information currently available in a variety of sources.
The first phase of this project used focus groups to assess a prototype web page, and their feedback is being used in developing the new SkillsNet pages. Students appear very keen to have easily accessible, relevant academic support resources available on-line. Although the focus is on academic content, the intention is for the 'Net' to be widened to include personal skills development information, including those related to employability. This phase of the development will focus on expanding content to sample disciplines across all faculties.
