Cogent
Co-genT: The Co-Generative Toolkit
The University of Winchester is taking part in the Cogent project, which won £211,000 in JISC money in 2009, with an additional £50,000 awarded in 2010. The project, which will run over two years, investigates how technology can be used in demand-led curriculum development at two universities, the University of Winchester and the University of Gloucestershire. The project looks at the current provision, and the need to find appropriate support and delivery mechanisms for this new type of learning environment, in particular supporting students in finding ways to use their work based experience in an academic community. Many issues will be investigated such as those surrounding the development of customised, even individualised, programmes of study, the need for effective communication between academia and employers, and quality assurance.
Cogent will begin to address these issues through:
-
The establishment of procedures ensuring flexibility and responsiveness within a rigorous academic framework that ensures appropriate standards are met
-
Creating a vocabulary to facilitate communication and alignment between academic standards and occupational standards
-
The development of a Toolkit that supports the development of individual learning programmes
