Research

Research into Learning and Teaching is important for understanding the student experience, contributing to national debates and allowing staff to develop their pedagogic interests.

Research into Learning and Teaching is done across the University, through the LTDU, the Faculty RIT Project Officers and through projects run by staff through the faculties. These range from small scale assessment of e.g. particular aspects of teaching practice in a specific discipline to large externally funded projects such as TESTA. It encompasses examinations of student feedback, assessment of the appropriateness of new technologies, investigations into how current issues in Learning and Teaching are manifested at Winchester, as well as book based assessments of current best practice.

Research into Learning and Teaching is really important for many reasons. It encourages staff to develop as teachers and as pedagogic researchers, it encourages detailed investigations into the student experience and how we can improve it at Winchester, and acts as an important vehicle for developing external partnerships with other Universities and funding bodies. As teaching is one of the core activities at the University of Winchester, finding ways of improving it is at the heart of our institutional mission.
