Biography

Brittney Lapham came to England from Michigan, USA, to begin studying MA Contemporary Global Issues. “I’d never been to England so moving here was an adventure. When I was choosing where to study, location was very important. Winchester is quintessential England – it is a beautiful city with the right mix of city life and countryside.

“Studying in the UK is a very different experience to in the States. There’s a lot more independence allowing you to study on your own and explore the parts of the programme you’re most interested in. The atmosphere on campus is relaxed and it is fun to study here.

“For my dissertation I’m interested in exploring the issue of obesity, particularly in young children. I plan to use my background in journalism and public relations to explore the power of the media and advertising and how it influences obesity.

“Managing Contemporary Global Issues has opened my eyes to different ways of thinking. Looking at issues from a global perspective has been at times overwhelming but it has also inspired me to make a difference.

“Winchester is an adorable city and I may even work in Winchester and stay a few more years before heading back to the States.”
