Biography

Chris Buckingham is studying MA Cultural and Arts Management on a full-time basis having returned to live in Winchester after some years overseas.

“I had quite specific criteria when deciding on a Masters degree and the course at Winchester seemed to offer all that I needed. Originally I am from a cultural background and this course complemented that and gave me an opportunity to explore the arts side of things, so it provided a really good balance.

“The aspect that I have found the most challenging and rewarding was the final Professional Project. I managed a theatre project, which was new to me but gave me the opportunity to expand my own professional development.”

The final project saw Chris organising and staging an event that was the first of its kind – an interactive comedy piece called Txt Stage which featured an ad-lib performance from a comedy troupe involving audience participation via their mobile devices.

“It was a resounding success and both the comedians, who had been together for over 19 years, and audience thoroughly enjoyed using the new interactive technology and everyone was buzzing at the fact that it was so new and fresh. We are now hoping to make Txt Stage a regular event.”

Chris is self-employed and teaches English as a Foreign Language as well as publishing learning materials including e-learning manuals. “One of the great things about this course is the flexibility and being able to fit it alongside work – it was one of the many reasons I chose Winchester.

“Doing my Masters degree here in Winchester has opened my eyes to a number of fresh opportunities and has helped me to expand my entrepreneurial vision while allowing me to get involved in projects that I would never have thought of before.”
