Biography

Claire Patubo is from Manila, Philippines, and she is studying MSc Business Management, with a focus on international business. Claire began a Masters degree in the Philippines on Business and Economics before deciding to come
and study at Winchester.

“My aunt and uncle, who live nearby in Alton, recommended the University of Winchester and because the education system in the UK offers better career prospects I decided to apply.

“When I learnt that I was accepted on to the programme, I had mixed emotions. I was surprised and happy but because this is the first time that I had ever lived away from home, I was also a bit sad and worried. But I then decided that it was best for my family and for my future, so I moved to the UK to study at Winchester and live with my aunt and uncle.

“I need not have worried. Staff in the Faculty and in the Student Services department are very supportive and they have helped me settle in. For example, the International Student Officer provided advice on my visa-related concerns. I have also had help and learnt a lot from both my academic and language tutors.

“Studying at Winchester has been a great experience; I relish the opportunities available to me and enjoy everything with my classmates and friends as much as I possibly can. I also work part-time for the University, helping disabled students by taking notes for them in lectures and seminars.

“Once I graduate I plan to work for an international development organisation or pursue a business career in a multinational company.”
