US Federal Aid
We realise how many things you need to do when applying for your federal aid loan, so we have tried to make the web pages as easy to follow as possible.
The pages are linked to information on your rights and responsibilities as loan applicants, advice on how much to borrow and ideas and a timeline to ensure all deadlines are met.
You can also download essential leaflets on the costs for attendance, promissory notes and how to get further advice.
We're always here to offer as much help as we can so if you have any problems, please get in touch.
We'd like to thank the London School of Economics (LSE) for working with us in providing all information on loan applications and the federal aid process.
The University of Winchester administers both Federal Stafford Loans and Private Loans for eligible US Students.
Please read all of this suite of web pages before starting any application.
Loans are handled by the Student Recruitment office
Financial Support at The University of Winchester is not the same as Financial Aid in the USA. Your previous loans were probably initiated and handled by your school’s Financial Aid Office. At Winchester, all loans are handled only by the Student Recruitment Office.
Applying for loans
Although we try to make the loan process as easy as possible, Federal Regulations for foreign schools are very different to US schools and allow no short cuts or fast-track. Some lenders’ call centre staff are not fully experienced in working with foreign schools, which may lead to you being given incorrect information. Consequently any deviation from our instructions may suspend or cancel the application process and nobody will know what has happened because foreign schools have no electronic access to view applications or progress or to certify them.
We can only process original paper documents. Lenders and the University of Winchester do not accept faxed copies. We have set out instructions on the following pages, which you need to follow precisely to make the process work efficiently.
You need to read and work through all of these pages before trying to make any type of application and before trying to contact our office.
