Undergraduate entry qualifications

Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to undergraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.0 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 560 in Paper-based TOEFL, 220 in Computer-based TOEFL).All students applying for a Bachelors (BA/BSc/LLB) degree at Winchester should hold one of the following qualifications:
Successful completion of a suitable one year UK Foundation programme from a recognised university or further education college
Canadian High School Diploma (see below)
- Alberta - a General High School Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with an average of at least 65% in five grade 12 courses.
- British Columbia - the Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with at least five Bs (BBBBB) in grade 12 courses.
- Manitoba - the High School Graduation Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if five credits have been awarded at 300 level in at least four subject areas and with at least 65% achieved in each of these areas.
- New Brunswick - the High School Graduation Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if five credits have been awarded at 300 level in at least four subject areas and with at least 65% achieved in each of these areas.
- Newfoundland - the High School Graduation Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if five credits have been awarded at 300 level in at least four subject areas and with at least 65% achieved in each of these areas.
- North West Territories - a General High School Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with an average of at least 65% in five grade 12 courses.
- Nova Scotia – the High School Completion Certificate is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with at least an average of 65 per cent in at least five acceptable subjects at level 4 or 5.
- Ontario - the Ontario Academic Courses (OACs) are generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if six OACs are passed - three at grade B and three at grade C.
- Prince Edward Island - the High School Graduation Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if five credits have been awarded at 300 level in at least four subject areas and with at least 65% achieved in each of these areas.
- Quebec – the Diplôme d’Etudes Collègiales (DEC) and the Attestation d’Etudes Collègiales are generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes.
- Saskatchewan - the Completion Grade 12 Standing/Division IV Standing (Secondary School Diploma) is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with an average of at least 65% in five acceptable subjects.
- Yukon - the Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma is generally considered to satisfy the requirements for entry onto year 1 of our undergraduate programmes if awarded with at least five Bs (BBBBB) in grade 12 courses.
Personal statement
Undergraduate students must supply the University with a detailed personal statement explaining why you want to join the University of Winchester and why the programme you are applying for interests you. You will also need to supply the University of Winchester with an academic reference which should be on official headed paper and notarised where possible.
Postgraduate entry qualifications
Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to postgraduatedegree programmes is a minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.5 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 580 in Paper-based TOEFL, 237 in Computer-based TOEFL).
All students applying for a Masters degree (MA/MSc/MBA) at Winchester should hold the following qualifications:
A good four year Bachelors degree (Honours) from a recognised university with a GPA of 2.8 (good B grade or approximately 65%) or above will be considered for entry to Masters study
Personal statement
